BOWLING.
Four of the clubs belonging to the Dunedin Centre made organised efforts on Saturday to raise their share of the £IOOO aimed at for the patriotic funds, and, assisted by their lady friends, their efforts met with a good deal of success. At the D.uedin Club’s grounds, the Mayor of Dunedin (Mr J. J. Clark), introduced by Mr T. A. Maitland, president, opened the proceedings. The stallholders did a good business, and the various competitions were well patronised. In all, some £75 was taken. At the Kaituna Club’s green an open-air fete was also the Mayor of Dunedin. Stallholders were kept busy, and the competitions proved interesting. A very attractive feature was a number of dances on the green by the children pupils of Mrs R. H. Bligh. It is expected that well over £IOO will be realised. At the St. Kilda Club’s green, the Mayor of St. Kilda (Mr C. N. Scurr) officially opened the proceedings. The stalls were well patronised, and the competitions for bowlers proved attractive. Altogether the handsome sum of £l2O was taken, which, with the amount in hand, will result in £l5O for the patriotic funds. The Taieri Club had made elaborate preparations for the day, and the result was a large turnout of bowlers and their friends. All manner of competitions were being got off on the green and close by. while in the second enclosure were stalls of all descriptions, and in a third a party of gaily dressed children danced round the Maypole and favoured the assemblage with other pretty dances. The Taieri Pipe Band paraded through the grounds, which added much to the enjoyment of the afternoon. The results of the day’s labours, together with the proceeds of a recent concert, will bo well over £IOO. The Roxburgh Club has received a gold pin to be played for in single contests from Mr M'Mullin, a Christmas lamb to be played for in doubles from Mr Woodhouse, a gold medal from Mr Rossitcr, of Dunedin, and trophies of the value of £1 10s and 10s 6d respectively from Messrs W. Donnelly aud T. Richards. The club is in luck’s way.
