Sapper George Proctor, died oi wounds, was bum at Mount Stuart, and educated at the Leitli Vailey school. He served his apprenticeship to the oubinetniaking, but five years ago joined his brother in larming at KakapaaKn. lie was a keen cyclist, and took part in the limaru to Christchurch road race in 1011. lie left Duneam with the Ninth Beinforeeiucnts, and had been through all the 'fighting in which the New Zealanders were engaged up to the time of receiving his fatal wound. Lieut. George Ackhurst, of Palmerston North, killed in action, served in China throughout the Boxer rising, and later in the Boer war. He leaves a widow in Palmerston North.

Sergt. A. Stoucham, killed in action, was the son of Lieut.-Col. Stoneharn. Educated at Forbury School and the Boys' High School, he left with the Twenty-first Reinforcements, having joined as soon as he was 20 years of age. He had beeu an enthusiastic Cadet and. Territorial.

Lieut. Bobert Hugh Stables, died from wounds, was the son of a at one time well-known Dunedin citizen. Educated 'under Mr Kyle at Mornington, he became pupil teacher at Greerj Island, and after some time in the Training College was third assistant at Oaniaru South. He was appointed fourth assistant at Kaikorai School, and was then promoted to be second assistant at the High Street School. He resigned to take up journalistic work, and was on the reporting staff of the Southland Times, and later with the Auckland Star. He was well known in connection with rowing and Association football. He was married prior' to leaving to a daughter of Capt. Clark, of Onehunga.

Capt. il. J. Morrison, killed in action, was a most popular and efficient officer, who won the Military Cross at the Messines battle, lie was a Bachelor •of Science, graduate of Otago University, and ward master at Kelson College. Capt. George M'llrov, killed in action, was the fifth son of Mr and Sirs J. W. M'llroy, of Greymouth. He was born in Kumara, and was 2li years of age. He entered the legal profession, and was articled to Messrs Statham and Aspinall, of Dum-din. While in Dunedin ho won the championship for elocution at the Competitions, and held the cup for -two years. Capt. 'M'llroy left with the Seventeenth Reinforcements.

Temporary Capt. D. G. Napier, killed in action, was the second son of Mr and Mrs Napier, of Linwood, Christchuroh. He was 2G years of age, and was in the Customs Department, Wellington, -at the time of enlisting with the Tent!' Reinforcements.

Lieut. John Millar, killed in notion, was the son of Mrs A. C. Millar, Bowmont street, Invercargill. Born in that town, he was educated at the Middle and Southland Boys' High School. He entered the emplo3- of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, and left with the Tenth Reinforcements. He "was a prominent football player. L.-cpl. Wm. Webb Wardrop, killed in action. was the son of Mr E. S. Wardrop, of Dunedin. He was educated at the Kaikorai School (where he was dux), and the Boys' High School. He' then went to Invercargill to manage the branch there of the Dunedin Fibrous Plaster Company. He left with the Fifth R-einofrccmeiits.

L.-cpl. Walter John Parker, killed in action. was born in Dunedin, and educated at the Albany Street School. An enthusiastic sport, he left with the Nineteenth Reinforcements. He was engaged as carter for the . Phcenix Company when he joined. Private Bertram Charles Collings, killed in action, was the son of Mr and Mrs F. A. Ceilings, of Hawea Flat. Born at Cromwell, and educated at the Luggato School, he assisted the family on the farm at Hawea Flat. Later he commenced farming on his own account at Mount Barker. A brother is serving in France, having left with the Sixth Reinforcements.

Private John Clarence Crutchley, killed in action, was the son of Mr J. H. Crutohley, ol Kyeburn. He was 27 years of age, and a fine specimen of manhood, being over six feet in height, and a first-class rifle-shot. Ee had been an active member of the Maniototo Mounted Bines.

Flight-Lieut. Hubert Solomon, who was killed during a recent air raid, was a son of Mr B. 11. Solomon, of Dunedin. Born in Dunedin 32 years ago, he was educated at Wellington, and was for some years a commercial traveller. When he enlisted he was in business for himself. He served in Egypt with an early reinforcernliit, and was then transferred to the Boyal Flying Corps. Private Wm. Boss, killed in action, worked for some six years for Mr W. Dalgleish, of Puerua, prior to leaving with the Twenty-fourth Beinforcements.' He was of a very genial and charitable disposition. His brother George was killed «t the landing at Gallipoli, and another brother, Mark, has been invalided home as the result of wounds.

Guuner James Thomas Morris, killed in action, was the only • son of the late Mr Thomas N. Morris, farmer, of Highcliff. After being educated at the Forbury School, he was in the employ of Messrs Eattray and Son, and was cadet on a farm at Sandymount when he joined the Twenty-fourth Beinforcements.

Private Allen J. Ramsay, killed in action, was the only son of Mr Thomas Ramsay, of Fairlea, Hyde, where he was born and educated. He was barely 20 years of age when he enlisted, leaving us a member of the Twenty-first Beinforcements. He had a bright ami cheerful manner, and was a general favourite in the district. Cpl. Harkness Henry Bice, killed in action, was the only son of Mr J. H. Bice, for many years headmaster, of the Oamaru South School. After leaving "school and passing the Junior Civil Service examination, he entered the Customs Department. He left with the Twenty-second Beinforcements, and, after training in England, was sent to Prance.

Private John B. Halley, killed in action, was the eldest son of Mr P. Halley, formerly Conciliation Commissioner and a member of the Board of Trade. Educated at- the Marist Brothers' School, Wellington, and Sacred Heart College, Auckland. He was employed in the office of a Wellington legal firm when he enlisted, being barely 20 years of age. Private P. E. Howard, killed in action, was the only son of the late Mr Peter Howard, of Ivy Bridge Farm, Hyde. He was educated at the Hyde School, .ind when hi* father died about 13 years ago, young as he was, he took on the management of the farm, and was very successful. He disposed of the farm, and 'left with one of the early reinforcements. He was wounded in the Somme battle, but soon returned to duty. He leaves a sister ("Mrs S. C. Fache, of Dunedin). Private Francis Arthur Jones, killed in action, was the son of Mr and Mrs S. F. Jones, of Dunedin. He was born at Bluff, and educated at the Albany Street School and Boys' High School. He was on the staff of Messrs Donald Beid and Co. when he left with the Twnty-first Beinforcements.

Private Jarucs P. Miilholland, killed in action on October 4, was bom at Livingstone on Octols.oro 20. 1888. He was educated at the Livingston School, after which he followed Hie duties of farming with his father at Livingstone ami at Ranfnrly. Desiring n change, he next was employed as .assistant to Mr W. He •hen decided to join the railway service, ant started in Jnvercargill as eugine-eleaner, and was acting-fireman at the time of his enlistment. His duties made him a resident of Tuatapere, Urepuki, Hedgehope, Edievale, and Glenham lot a short period, Kifieman Millar took a keen interest in all sport, and was also a keen member oi the Maniotoco Lodge. Private John Henry Coppell, died from wounds, was the youngest son of Mr George Coppell, llotupipi, and brother of Constable Coppell, of St. Kilda, and Mrs M'Corkindale, of Lawrence. He was engaged with his lather in farming and contracting before leaving with the Twenty-second Reinforcements. He was 24 years of ag"e, and leaves a widow and two children.

Private J. S. Cook, killed in action, was the fourth son of Mr and Mrs David' Cook, of Awamnngu. He was born at Lakeside, Oatlins. and was educated at Batanui and Awamangu Schools. He was wounded at the Somme, and on returning to the front was killed at the taking Of Abraham Heights. Private P. L. Blackctt, killed in action, was 2.'i years old, and was born at Bangiora, Canterbury. He was educated at Bangiora Borough School, Bangiora High School, and Stratford School, and was in the employ of Messrs Mason, Struthers, and Co., iron merchants, Christchurch, at the time of his enlistment in the Nineteenth Beinforcements.

Private Jack Stirling, killed in action, was a son of Mr Richard Stirling, of Biverton. He was a prominent representative footballer, represent, ig Southland against Otago in 1885; and a good swimmer, representing Canterbury at the New Zealand Swimming Championships. Private G. Macindoe, killed, resigned his position as demonstrator in electric engineering at Canterbury College to enlist with the Tenth Beinforcements.

Sapper \V. G. Sage (New Zealand Divisional Signallers), died of wounds, aged 24. He was born and educated at Ashburlon, and was in the Savings Bank Department of the G.P.0., Wellington, when he enlisted."

Private W. Lyle Mitchell, died of wounds, was the second son of Mr W. W. Mitchell, of Otekaike. Ha was born in Oamaru and educated at Invercargill, and was farming in Australia before he left for the front. His youngest brother, Douglas, died of wounds two months ago. The eldest ami only surviving son was at the landing at Gallopoli, and returned with the loss of an arm. Private H. R. Sanderson, died of wounds, was the youngest son of Mr W. L. Sanderson, of Ahuroa. He was born at Ahuroa, and was 22 years of age. At the time of his enlistment with the Ninth Reinforcements he was in the railway service at Helcnsville. A brother, who left with the Third Reinforcements, is serving in France. Private George Groves, killed in action, was a son of Mr George Groves, of Ettrick street, Invercargill. He was 21 years of age, and was a native of Nightcaps. Private Grovc3 was attached to the Maohine-gun Section of the Eighth Reinforcements. His brother, John, who left with the Ninth Reinforcements, has been twice wounded, and is now an inmate of the Walton-on-Thames Hospital.

Private William M'Gee, killed in action, was the youngest son of Mr and Mrs Thomas M'Gee, of Winslow, South Canterbury. He was 24 years of age, and left with the Eighteenth Reinforcements. Two brothers are still serving in France. Private M'G-ee leaves a wife and four children. Sooond-lieut. John M'Lean, died from sickness, was the only son of the late Mr Charles M'Lean, farmer, of Hyde, where he was born and educated. Losing his father at the age of 10 years, he took up the work of running the farm, and made a success of it. He was one of the original members of the Maniototo Mounted Rifles, and rose to be a lieutenant. He was married about 10 years■ ago to Miss Greer, of Patearoa, and she is left with two children to mourn fch*ir loss.

Sergt. Harold Dodds, killed in action, was the son of Major and Mrs Dodds, of Port Chalmers. Ho had been a member of the Port Chalmers Navals under his father before leaving with the Thirteenth Reinforcements.

Private John Moir, killed in action, was a weil-known Port Chalmers boy, who left with the Tenth Reinforcements. An elder brother is serving in France. Gunner Clair Nelson Sutherland, killed in action, was the son of the Rev. R. R. M. Sutherland, of the Kaikorai Presbyterian Church. He reached his 21st birthday only in August last. Educated at the Kaikorai School, Boys' High School, and Otago University, he was looking forward to entering the ministry. He left with the Twenty-second Reinforcements, and was transferred to the Machine-gun Section, to be with his brother, - Gunner James Fulton Sutherland, who was also unfortunately killed- in June last. Private Arthur Herbert Davis, killed in action, was the son of Mr and Mrs H. C. Davis, of Canongate street, Dunedin. He was 32 years of age, and was educated at the Christian Brothers' School. He was ai brass-moulder by trade, and left with the Twenty-second Reinforcements. Private William Jairß'S Kroon, killed in action, left with the Twenty-first Reinforcements 18 months before attaining the age of 20 years. He had been in the employ of the Bank of New Zealand. His parents- being dead, he was brought up with Mr Archibald Miller, of Pitt Btsrovt. Rifleman Leonard J. Harris, killed in action, was the only son of ex-Councillor Harris, of Musselburgh, and was 22 years of age. After work ing as a motor merchanic, he went to the Gladbrook Estate to gain an insight into farming, and was afterwards in the employ of Mr j. Graham, Ngapuna. He left with the Sixteenth Reinforcements.

Corporal William A. Brown, killed in action, was about 34 years of age. Prior to joining the Eighteenth Befnforcements, he had been in the employ for about 14 years of Messrs Battray and Son as ai traveller. He was keen on businees, but most popular for his never-failing courtosy and geniality. In his younger days he was well known as a dancer at Caledonian and othtr games. He several times represented Southland in the annual commercials' fo •'•ball match. Private John Eden, killed in action, left with tha Eighteenth Beinforcements. Hawkins, wounded, is the second son of Mr and Mrs S. Hawkins, of Centre Bush. He was educated at the Eimehills School, and left with the Nineteenth Reinforcements. Private Alexander John Currie, wounded in the foot, and admitted to hospital, is the son of Mr and iris A. Carrie, Milton. He was ill the employ of Mr Q. P. Tomkiuson, Milhurn, before having with the Xwentv-sixth Beinforeemcnts. Sec-Lieut, W. E. Anderson, wounded, is the son of Mr G. J. Anderson, M.P. for Mataura. After being employed for some years in the Bank of New Zealand, he gave this up to go farming in the Wnikato district. He left wfch the Sixteenth Beinforeemcnts. Private W. J. Harrington, severely wounded in the left arm and both legs, is the son of Mrs M. Harrington, of Batanui. He left with the Iweuty-fourth Reinforcements.
