The following letter received from a wellknown southern brewery, has been handed to us (says the Gisborne Times), as evidence of the increased costs that hotolkeepcrs have to contend with: —"In consequence of the extra beer duty just imposed, and the great increase in the cost of bottles and raw ■ materials of every description, the price of bottled ale and stout will be advanced by 2s per dozen for quarts, and Is per dozen for pints.
