LAND AND WATER.

The Southland Acclimatisation Society continues to receive reports of the depredar tions of paradise*ducks in the Mossburn district. Settlers are calling; out for an open season as a means of protecting their grain crops from the unwelcome attention of tot many ducks. OTAGO ANGLERS' ASSOCIATION. The thirty-fifth annual meeting of the Otago Anglers' Association was held on the 19th. There was a largo attendance of members. The chair was occupied by Mr W. S. Pattison (president). In moving the adoption of the annual report, the president said it could be viewed with satisfaction. Though a great number of members were angling in another sense, still the interest of those, of their confreres who remained at homo had never been more pronounced than it was at the present time. —(Applause.) Mr O. A. Wilson, in seconding the motion, spoke on similar lines, and impressed on those present the advisability of informing the Acclimatisation Society of the locality of dams and other suitable water for the supply of perch, so that provision would be made for angling whero trout fishing was not obtainable. —(Hear, hear.) Mr A. Pellett (the : Acclimatisation Society's ranger) gave some interesting information as the result of his recent observations on the state of rivers in the province, which, he said, were generally in a better condition than had been the case for years East —a fact which was no doubt occasioned y the winter floods. The report was adopted. The election of officers resulted_ as follows: —President, Mr J. Black; vice-presi-dents —Messrs C. S. Jenkins, J. S. Brownley, W. Finlayson, J. Hutchison, and D. M'Lennan; secretary, Mr A. E. Jenkins; treasurer, Mr W. Finlayson; auditor, Mr C. A. Wilson; committee—Messrs L. De Beer, A. Spiers, W. A; Mackay, F. Hiddleston, J. Barnes, J. Burt, L. Whelham, A. Dobson, J. Grant, and G. Frame; trustees, Messrs D. Cooke and H. G. Williams. After ,the meeting the members present indulged in a pleasant social evening. A number of appropriate toasts were honoured, after which the function concluded with the singing of " Auld Lang Syne" and the National Anthem.
