AUCKLAND TOPICS.

By Tathoa.

Tho weather during the past week has been beautifully fine, and the result is that trainers have taken the opportunity offering to liven up their charges and brighten them up in view of the approaching meetings in November. W. Mobberley, who has a fairly large team in work, will shortly lose Dood and who are to go to Australia. Dood will _ contest jumping races, but Agncstcs will compete in pony races. As had to be, tho appointment of Mr F. J. Macmaneipin to the position of handicappcr to the Auckland Facing Club has brought about the breaking-up of his big training stable, and already several owners have made the necessary changes. The good handicap performer Colonel Soult will bo trained by P. Jones, who will also get a couple of two-year-olds from the stable.

Bingham, who promises to bo one of our hopes in the classics this season., will in future be trained by J. Thorpe. The same trainer ha<? the useful trie* Fisher, Bluest-one, and Hopficld in his pare. Silver Lupin is coming along nicely in bis •work, and while the tracks keep hard he can show a fine dash of pace. So far the three-year-old Scottish Knight has stood up to the work allotted to him. but there is just a suspicion that ho may pro out at any time. It will be a pity j'f this occurs, as there is not any doubt about the son of Marble Arch being a good one. The work of making the new course at Devonport has been _ so rapidly pushed ahead that some hope is entertained of the spring meeting being held there. The Alison team of two-vear-olds will shortly b© transferred to Ellerslie to be

tried out. H. Gilchrist at present has them in hia charge. Cordite, who .is small enough to race amongst the ponies, can go very fast, but unfortunately he is not very sound, and Mobberley will have to be very careful to get him to the starting post. Tho season will commence in Auckland next month with trotting meetings by both tho Auckland and Otahuhu Clubs. Tho disappointing Soultaino is being tried on a very light preparation, and he is carrying a lot of condition. He is now trained by J. Lambees. Judging by the work being allotted Master Regel, he will be asked to do something at the Avondale meeting. He looks very well. Demotic, a three-year-old who is expected to win a race or 'two this season, nas gone into P. Jones's stable. Signo and Lady Glen are well forward as a, result of attention by H. French; but though both can go fast they do not appear - to be very reliable. Colonel Soult is very well, and it is no trouble to him to register the best gallop of the morning without being asked to do his best. King of the Valley has made a reappearance at Ellerslie, and is now being trained by R. Hall. Sylyiaroa is gaining confidence in his fencing, and as he has pace he may prove useful over the small sticks. However, there are a number of promising maiden hurdlers in work. RAGING EN NEW ZEALAND.
