Business in the stock market has been somewhat restricted owing to lambing becoming more general on the low lands. Still a few lines of ewes in lamb have changed hands,, the principal sale being a line of 500 sound-mouthed at 36s 6d. lino of two, four, and six-tooth ewes, with a small admixture of eight-tooth, brought 40s; and a line of full and broken-mouthed ewes found a buyer at 30s. Some transactions in ewes and lambs are reported, these including a line of sound-mouthed ewes for prompt delivery at 24s (all counted), and a line of old ewes for forward delivery at 19s 6d (all counted). The greater part of the week's business has been done in hoggets, which have reached a higher level of prices, mixed sexes having been sold in lines at from 30s up to 33s 6d, while an extra good lino of wether hoggets realised 335. Some movement in cattle can be reported, though the transactions do not embrace any lines of special note. The prices realised have been as follow: Three-year-old bullocks in forward condition, £l4; two and three-year-old steers. £9 10s; two and three-year-old steers and heifers in mixed lines, up to £lO 15s; mixed-sex two-year-olds, £8 10s; yearlings in mixed-sex lines, from £4 10s to £4 17s 6d. There is a good demand for young, sound dairy cows, and at a cloning sale this week up to £ls was paid for cows in profit. Old cows nre, however, neglected, and have to be quitted at low figures. SOUTHLAND STOCK MARKET. (From Os« Own Correspondent.) INVER.CARGILL, September 15. Business in istock continues to be good, and the market firm. Several sales have been held during the week, at Otautau, Waimahaka, Woodlands, and the usual weekly Walacetown sales. At Wallacetown some of the fat cattle were of very good quality, but tho bulk of tho yarding consisted of unfinished cattle. However, the whole yarding changed hands at satisfactory rates. In the fat sheep the yarding consisted mainly of wethers and some extra good sheep were forward, one pen of extra good stuff realising 50s. Ihe storo cattle market continues firm.

6tores of all classes selling exceptionally well, and the market will no doubt continue good for the remainder of the year, young istore cattle and good forward bullocks being in probably the best demand. Well bred calves of both sexes are also realising good values. In dairy cows any good sorts offering that are guaranteed sound and known to be good, are meeting with ready sale, high prices being realised, some bringing up to £lB, some £l6, and others down to £l3. Old dairy cows, however, are hard to quit at £6 to £lO. Store sheep continue firm, hoggets being exceptionally so, one extra nice line realising 37s 6ch the highest for hoggets this year. This, however, was an exceptionally fine line. There is keen inquiry for good woolly hoggets, mixed sexes, also for good storo wethers. As lambing is becoming general ewes are not offering iso freely, and anything offering is hard to place owing to the difficulty of shifting. Values are as follows: Fat Cattle:—Ox beef, 46s 6d to 48s 6d; heifer beef, 44s to 46s 6d; cow beef, 43s to 44s 6d. ADDINGTOISr STOCK MARKET. CHRISTCHURCH, September 12. At Addington to-day the yarding of stock wae smaller than for the previous week on account of the wet weather on Tuesday. In fat- cattle the supply was barely sufficient for requirements, an were irregular, being equal to 55s to 60s and over per 1001 b. The yarding of fat sheep was a very email one, only four races being occupied. Prices consequently were much firmer. An application was telegraphed to the Board of Trad3 for a supply of mutton from the freezing works. There was a good demand for dry store sheep, both wethers and hoggets showing an advance. Store cattle met with improved demand, and fat pigs were very dear, while stores were rather easier.
