OTEKURA.

September 13. —Presentations of illuminated wristlet watches were made to Messrs Fred Lindsay and Fred Mudie, who are down on final leave. Patriotic. —The zeal of the women in the cause of patriotism is certainly _ alive in Otekura. The idea of a sale of violets was suggested by Mrs Friend, of Tahatika, and she and Mrs Benzey, of Koraro, supplied the loveliest violets and other spring flowers. These were supplemented by donations of narcissi arid violets from Mesdames Kerr and Leslie and Miss Glanville. Miss Margaret Linda-ay helped to arrange the flowers, and on Thursday the 23rd ult., Misses Evelyn Mackenzie and May Abernethy (Otekura), Mis 9 Olive Wilson (Glenomaru), and Mies Polly Macdougall (Tahatika), with Miss N. Mackenzie (Otekura) as organiser, prepared for the sale. They journeyed to Owaka, hoping to sell their buttonhole bouquets to the men attending the fortnight sale, and also to other passers-by. In this they were so successful that at the; end of the day they were able to hand in dE3 10s to the local Patriotic Society. The Otekura Branch of this society is particularly active. In Mrs Richard Kerr they have a most capable president, and the secretarial work is ably carried out by Miss Glanville, the local school teacher.
