SCHOOL IXTERPROYIXCTAL MATCH. Tho interprovinoial match between learns selected from the primary schools of Otago and Southland was played nt Carisdrook on Saturday. The ground was not much affected by the light rain which fell in the morning, and there was little or no wind. The players had to be under 15 years of age, and not to exceed Ost. Iho Southland boys, all round, were a little heavier than their opponents, and had two or ihrco taller boys. G. Dickinson captained the home team, and H. Foley the visitors. The match was interesting in patches, and was mostly confined to dribbling rushes. Some of the boys tried to indulge in passing, and with more experience they should do better in tin's important department of the game. A feature of the play on both sides was the line-kicking, .some -of tho boys being particularly accurate in finding the line. In the first half Dickinson made a fine run from the Reds' twenty-five, and shortly after, Lloyd scored for Otago at the cornor, no goal resulting". Spillane, the Southland midget half-bacli, was responsible for good defensive play, kicking well to the lino, and good play by Foley (who has the phvsica-1 disability of a paralysed right arm), and then by Carnahan, resulted in Otago forcing. The Reds continued to attack, and Dickinson again got his side out of trouble by a strong run from his own line. Hard kicking took play to the Southland line, and a force down resulted. The visitors attacked strongly at the commencement of the second half, and only over-eagerness prevented them from, scoring, Otago being forced twice in quick succession. Lloyd led a strong dribbling rush to half-way, the Red*' full back saving the situation. Mills, for Southland, and Straehan and Fox, for Otago, showed up with good play, and Foley made a great run olean through his opponents and was all but over. Jones, on the wing, put in some sound work for the Reds, and then Ferguson and Strachan carried the ball over, and the latter scored the second try for Otago. Tho kick at goal failed. In the closing stages of the game M'Dermott snapped up the ball from the end of a linieout, and finished up a slashing run by scoring near the posts, but the goal kick was charged down. Otago won by 6 points to 3 points. On the run of the play, however, it was anybody's game right through. Mr Gt. M'Kenzie was the referee.
