STRIKES IN THE NORTH. AUCKLAND, September 13. The tunnel hands at Haines's tunnel, on the- North Auckland Main Trunk lino, struck last Thursday owing to a dispute with a new overseer regarding the disimssal of one of the men. The strikers have asked for an investigation from headquarters. A settlement has not yet been reached. STRIKES AT FLAXMILLS. PALMERSTON N., September 13. A mass meeting of flaxmill workers was held here to-day in connection with a demand for a minimum wage of 15s per day. The present minimum is 13s. A motion was put to the meeting that the strike bo continued at the Maranui and Weka mills, where 200 men are idle. An amendment was moved that there be a general strike of flaxmill workers, and this was carried by 209 votes to 203. Another amendment was moved that the strike be confined to Weka and Maranui, that during its continuance a. levy be made on the workers in the mills still in operation, and that a committee bo set up to negotiate with the employers as a whole in regard to fla.i workers' claims. This was carried unanimously.
