OBITUARY
DR OGSTON. It is with regret that we record the death of Dr Frank Ogston, M.D., CM., professor of medical jurisprudence in the University of Otago (acting district health officer), •which took place at his residence, High etreet, on the 6th inst. Dr Ogston, who was a man of considerable attainments and a leading authority on health matters, was a native of Scotland and a member of a well-known Aberdeen family. He took his degrees in Aberdeen in 1873, and practised his profession in Aberdeen, whore he was for a time assistant professor of medical jurisprudence at the university in that town. In 1886 he came to Dunedin under appointment as leoturer on medical jurisprudence and hygiene, at the University of Otago. Ho retained that status until 1909, when he was made professor of medical jurisprudence. With one or two exceptions, ho was, in point of service, the oldest member of the teaching staff of the university. On his arrival in Dunedin Dr Ogston became district health officer, retiring from that position after a number of years, but a few months ago, on the transference of Dr Smith to the north, he resumed the office. Dr Ogston's wife predeceased him a few months ago. The family consists of one daughter, who resides in Dunedin.
