SOLDIERS ON FURLOUGH.
AN APPEAL FOR FUNDS. WELLINGTON, September 3. The Advisory Board of the War Relief Societies recently received a letter from Lord Plunket stating that the War Contingent Association wanted money to spend on behalf of the men on furlough in England. The following cable was sent to Mr J. H. Coatcs, a member of the War Contingent Association:—" Patriotic societies want to know if moneys required for men on furlough in England and Franco are far regimental funds in France and to whom the money should be sent, and if cash grants are" made from the funds to the men 111' England. Consult your committee and General Richardson" Mr Coates replied that the money was wanted for the entertainment, etc., of men on leave from France. General Richardson approves of this. General Richardson says the regimental fund is«ample to provide everything needed by the men in Franco and reserve units in England. The money should be sent to the War Contingent Association, and I suggest, a remittance of £IOOO on account. The association does not maie cash grants to the men.
