EFFICIENCY BOARD

RESIGNATIONS ACCEPTED. AUCKLAND, September 5. Mr Gunson states that the resignations of the Efficiency Board have been accepted by tho Government. He added: "No doubt tho Government will carry on the organisation which the board created —namely, the Trustee Board, —as tho hitter is of particular value in matters such as where men are called up for service and when the Second Division comes to be called up." CIIRISTCIIURCTI, September 5. Mr J. A. Frostick, National Efficiency Commissioner for Canterbury, has received a telegram from the chairman of the Efficiency Board, Wellington, as follows: — " PJesigriations accepted as from the 15th inst., to permit time for reorganisation. Tho Minister ie writing direct to each commissioner with suggestions.'' Mr Frostick said that in his opinion the course which had been taken was the only one possible.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON. September 5. The announcement that tho resignation of the Efficiency Board has beon accepted is confirmed. This does not mean, however, that the work of the board is to cease. The board is to be reconstructed, perhaps with a changed personnel. There may or may not be a modification of the order of reference, but the interference of the board on policy matters to the embarrassment of tho Government and a recurrence of the vexatious friction between tho board and the Government will be prevented by the addition of a Minister to tho board.

Although the resignation of the Efficiency Board has been accepted by the Government, the Minister of Defence has made a request that the Boards of Trustees and the Committees of Advice associated with the Efficiency Board should remain in existence and carry on exactly the same work as they have hitherto been engaged on. The Minister will be the head of the organisation. It is understood that the great majority, if not. all, of the Boards of Trustees and the Committees of Advice will accede to the request. The Efficiency Board's resignation will not bo finally accepted until September 15, to enable it to get the new arrangement in full working order.
