RAILWAY OFFICERS' INSTITUTE.
The annual conference of the New Zealand Railway Officers' Institute began in Dunedin on Monday morning. Mr J. Young, of Wellington (president) occupied the chair. and delegates were present from all branches throughout the dominion. At the outset a resolution of sympathy with the relatives of the 48 members of the institute who have given their lives in the present great war was passed. i A number of questions of general interest, to railway officers are down for discussion, including the provision of half-pay for all Government servants serving at the front, and the question of the reduction in the cost of living. The question of sick-leave regulations was discussed, and also the matter of training Cadets both engineering and clerical with the object of securing the efficiency of the service. The conference adjourned at 5.30 p.m., and will resume its deliberations to-day.
