LAKE COUNTY.

September I.—Real summer weather has been experienced during the week. Football. —A match was played at Queenstown on Wednesday between teams representing Queenstown r.nd Arrow and Country Pirates combined, and resulted in a win for the latter team by 17 points to 6. Mr J. M'Gill (a visitor) acted as referee to the satisfaction of both teams. Four matches have been played this season, each team having two wins each. Death.—A very old identity of Queenstown, in the per.-son of Mrs Elizabeth Dance, passed away at the Lake County Hospital, Frankton, on Saturday last. Deceased was 73 years of age, and had been in failing health for some considerable time. She was a native of Reading, England, and, with her husband (who died ibout 30 years ago), settled in Queenstown nearly 50 years ago. 1 Of a kindly and sympathetic nature, the late Mis Dance was respected by all who knew her. She is survived by a married daughter (Mrs W. Hall, of Coburg, Melbourne), tier only son died in February last. The funeral took place at Queenstown on Monday, the services at St. Peter's Anglican Church and at the graveside being conducted by the Rev. ii. G. Coats. Second Division League.—A branch of the Second Division League has been formed at Glenorchy, Mr Geo. Reid being appointed president, Messrs John Tripp and John O'Conneli vice-presidents, Mr C. Young secretary, and Mr Jas. A. Reid treasurer. The following committee was appointed : —Messrs A. Ford, A." Scott, Jas. Lynch. J. Bowler, and J. Cronin. It was decided to affiliate with the Southland League. General. —Cecil Peak Station has changed hands, the purchaser being Mr H. M. Reeves, of Christchurch. Possession is to be taken to-day.—The repairs to the p.s. Mountaineer, which was damaged by fire some months ago, have now been completed, and the steamer is now on the slip for overhaul and inspection by the Inspector of Machinery. The Earnslaw and Ben Lomond will also go on the slip this year.—Messrs Leo Lre and W. S. Reid,. representing the Lake Coun'y A. and P. Society; Mr W. Reid, Lake County Council; and Mr A. Simson, Queenstown Borough Coimcil, met and conferred with Mr Brebner, district traffic manager, in reference to the better provision for loading and unloading of stock at Queenstown and Frankton wharves. Both wharves were visited, and the result is that improvements will- be made.

Personal.—Nurse Wilson, of the Southland Hospital. )ias been appointed to the Lake County Hospital in place of Nurse Milne, who has returned to the Southland Hospital.—Cable advice has been received during the week regarding the following district soldiers:—Private D. J. Cosgrove (Arrowtown), wounded; Private P. Rasmiissen (Arrowtown), in hospital in France; Private J. Robinson (Queenstown), in hospital in England.
