Writing- from Franco, a Hawera soldier states that pineapples, -which can be bought for 7d in New Zealand, cost lfr 80 cents (Is 6d in English money). Referring to gift tobacco, he says, also: "This week a case of 5000 yellow Three Castles cigarettes—marked 'Gifts for soldiers from New Zealand Gift Funds' —is being sold at 9d for tins of 20."
