REDUCED RAILWAY SERVICE
SHORTAGE OF GOAL SUPPLIES. DRASTIC REDUCTION OF TRAINS. Just as wo were going to press we re» ceived notice from the Railway Department! that owing to the shortage of coal supplies it has been decided to very materially reduce the train services on all lines much beyond that at first intimated. There will, from Monday next, 23rd insfc., be only one express train from Dunedin to Chri.'tchurch and vice versa, and Dunedin to Invercargill and vice versa. On the Otago Central line and on all branch lines the trains will be reduced, td threo day 3 each week, and all the suburban! trains will bo reduced proportionately. Live stock and goods traffic will be strictly limited. The coastal shipping is likely to be seriously affected, and already the Union Com* pany has had to lay up the Maori.
