ATTEMPT TO EVADE SERVICE.
AUCKLAND, April 11. At the Police Court to-day Thomas M'Ghee, a, reservist, was sentenced to 11 months' imprisonment for attempting to leave the' dominion without a permit, the sentence to be concurrent with that imposed recently by court-martial for deserting; from the reserve. William Ennis, boatswain of the oversea steamer on which M'Ghee secreted himself, was convicted of assisting in the attempt. As he had already been in gaol for six weeks a further term of six weeks only was imposed> A coloured man_ named Lopez was also convicted of assisting. Ho, too, had been in gaol for six weeks, and waa sentenced io 14 days' imprisonment.
