WELLINGTON NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) April 11

Messrs A. 13. and K. S. Williams were represented at a Wairarapa meeting -for the first time this week. H. J. Jefferd and his merry men—S. Re id and R. Reed—cleaned up things with Chortle and Co. He started half a dozen horses, and won with four of them. Sheila gave a very feeble display on her only appearance on tho first day, and was not produced on the second day. Chortle and Multiplication both carried welter weights, and the former put up a track record for 10 furlongs. Both got a bit of help through other horsrs being pulled out from the rails to let them through. Multaine started an odds-on-favourite for the big race on the second day, when the two-year-old Vagabond, who was unlucky on the first day. also scored. The team is now at Trentham, as also is Tc-ka, who ran a good race in the Easter Handicap. He would have beaten Chortle had the latter como round on the outside.

Double winners at the meeting wore Sardinia ' (by Provocation—-Sunfish), who has now won three races on end; Lady General (by General Latour—Romola), who put up a similar performance at the Now Year meeting; and the Napier trained Ramanuwhiri (by King's Guest—Ramoana), trained by J. Sccats at Napier. Vhi the concluding events Sfplendidus, who has been a disappointment in the hack class, scored in open company, and Sir Thomas put down a much-fancied runner in Crescent Moon. At Fcilding Sweet Tipperary scored on her only appearance. W. Young anticipated the rise of the barrier, and never gavo anv of the others a look in. Analogue, a place-getter in the Taranaki, Egmont. and Wanganui Cups, was the most-fancied runner for the Fcilding Cup. He could get onlv second to Municipal, well handled by H. Young. Another Multifid gelding in Cleft won the big event on the second day. Nobleman, full brother to Lord Laddo, won a race each day, making three wins in succession. Another double winner was Mahzoltov, by Formative —Awapuhi. He was making his first appearance in a jumping race, and put up fast time each day. Famous, the full brother to Postillion, who was expected to improve on his Bulls form, was second each. day. He was unlucky to bump up against a beginner like Mahzoltov. The latter was ridden by L. Traill, who also scored on Arlington, who was last the first day, when Sir Fisher scored. Blackall was got round with difficulty both days. He stopped several times on the first day; but Flynn managed to keep him going on the second.

Gang Awa and Hushman both raced consistently, although beaten by Ohiwia on the second clay. Hupana, Lady Edith, and Record Breaker, three of the" progeny of Advance, were among the winners. ■Starengo, who has been doing well in the hack class, scored on his first appearance in open company on the second day. Endure, a full brother to Expect, managed to get two seconds, and is evidently on the improve. A new totalisator house, similar to the one in use at Addington. was used for the first time. The increase in the turnover fell just short of £IO,OOO.
