WAIPIATA.

April 9. —A number of people from Waipiata and Patearoa mot at tho Waipiata Station on Saturday to bid farewell to Private F. Graham, who was home from Trentham on final leave. Private Graham was tire recipient of a, roll of noles from his Waipiata friends, and a roll of notes from his Patearoa friends. I\lr Jas. Howell, in making tho presentation from Waipiata, spoke of Private Graham’s sterling qualities and of tho need of all young fellows coming forward to help the Empire in its time of stress. Mr H. M : Skimmmg, in making tho presentation on behalf of Patearoa. friends, spoke on similar lines. Other speakers were Mr J. CNsill and Mr Blakely. Private Graham thanked those present fertile presentation, and said he would endeavour to uphold his end of tho stick to the best of his ability. Mr Graham, sen., also thanked those present on behalf of his son, and the singing of “ Auld lang syne " brought the proceedings to a close. Private Graham then loft by train, en routs to Tron them.

Death.—A very old resident in tiro person of Mrs Jas. Samuel passed away at her residence last week. Mrs Samuel had been ailing for some time, and her end was not. altogether unexpected. Two of the deceased lady's sons are at the front, one of whom was wounded, and is at present in hospital in England. Much sympathy is felt fox the bereaved husband and family. General.—The rabbit factory is closed down at present, but will start again in a day or two. The harvest is all in, and iho chalfcutter and thrashing mill are busily engaged round about the district. The secretary'of the Y.M.C.A. has just canvassed this district for funds for Iho association, and. as the cause is a good one and the canvasser energetic and enthusiastic, a good sum of money was subscribed. —Bunny has attracted shooters from Dunedin and suburbs; consequently everywhere one turns just now one meets someone with a gun.
