Y.M.C.A. FUND.

GENEROUS RESPONSE IN NORTH OTAGO. (Fbom Ocb Own Cobekspondknt.) OAMARU, April 7. The appeal for funds to enable the Y.M.C.A. to carry on its splendid work for tho benefit of the New Zealand soldiers has elioited a generous response in North Otago. Though the effort has not yet been concluded, nearly £I3OO has already been obtained, and it is anticipated that thq total will reach £ISOO, as several country committees have yet to report tho results of their canvass, and a considerable addition is looked for in the town. Tho appeal has been responded to well throughout tho length and breadth of North Otago, and what has helped to stir people to giving has been tho receipt from soldiers at the front of grateful acknowledgments of tho excellence of tho work' done by the organisation. It is not intended to hand over in a lump gum tho total amount raised to the central body in Wellington, but to guarantee regular monthly payments so long as the need lasts and the good work is carried on. North Otago will bo found ready to provide something more than its quota of the amount required in the belief that the rest of tho dominion will mako a like rcspon£e. A question that is freely asked here is what is being done in other parts of the dominion, and particularly Otago, but no one seems capable of stating anything definitely, though it is hinted that some places" are not doing their duty.
