NATIONAL PATRIOTIC APPLE SHOW.

ARRANGEMENTS WELL FORWARD. A well-attended and enthusiastic meeting of the General Committee having in hand the organisation of the 1917 national patriotic applo show was held in the Otago A and P. Society's board room on the 16th inst., Mr J. H. Hinton in the chair. Correspondence from Auckland, Wellington, and Nelson centres relating to matters connected with the provincial and other displays was dealt with. It was quite evident from the keen interest being displayed in the north that every effort is to be made to support the show with excellent entries in the Various classes, so that Otago growers will require to be up and doing if they wish to prove to all and sundry the quality of their fruit. The Ladies' Patriotic Committee is to be asked to take in hand the refreshment rooms department, for which purpose Fullers' Hull has been engaged. The committee wishes to place on record the exceedingly liberal manner in which the Messrs Fuller have met them by allowing the use of the hall rent free, lighting only to be charged. A special sub-committee has been appointed to deal with tiio matter of the decoration of tho halls, and when it is mentioned that the committee includes Mr Tannock enough has been said to leave no doubt ns to the thorough attention this important department will receive. As this show is intended to be instructive from an educational point of view, school children, in charge of teachers, will bo admitted free from 9 to 11 a.m. upon the four days upon -which the show will be open—namely, May 1 to 4. # Apart from its unique features and attractions, the show is intended to provide food for thought, for those level-headed citizens, who realise that, with every prospect of high prices ruling for most foods during many" years to come, fruit, and in particular the 'apple, is destined to become a staple, nutritious, and cheap article of diet.
