WELLINGTON NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspond-pint.} January 4. There.were three double winners ax the Wahvarapa meeting that should be heard of again before long. Two of them had not previously won a race. Lady General (General Latour—Romola) had won previously at Ashblirton. She carried 9.0 wwn she won on the second day, and, although small, -looks like being good enough vo win in open company. Sir Wallace (Sir Laddo —Vision) had previously boon placed on half a dozen occasions. He carries weight and stays well. Waimatoa, the other double winner, fJlowed some form at Woodville, where he ran second to Ayah. He won the Maiden Hack Race on the first day, and scored in open company on the second day. He is a half-brother to Haulr ikaka, Rongopai, and Pikiho, and promises to be useful if he trains on.

John Barleycorn arrived from Auckland this morning, and was taken out to Trentbam and will bo quartered at J. Lowe's stable. The North Otago-owned horse is to fulfil life engagement in the Welling! on Cup Trainer Christie goes south to-night. but will return next week-. It is stated that Ardenvhor goes home, but will return for the Wellington meeting.

Hastings trainer J.' M. Cameron won a double at Marton with Ororeka, a New South Wales-bred colt by Poseidon from Pleasant Surprise, an imported maro by Orme.

Two of the_ Highden cast-offs did well during the holidays. Sedd-el-Bahr won on each day of the Southland meeting, and Wapping (Advance —Betsy) scored in the big race on the second day of the Hawke's Bav meeting. The Karamu stable has so far this season p.ot had a successful run. Four of the team scored at the Hawke's Bay meeting this week. Thev were Hymeona (Hymettus —Eona), Hygia (Hymettus—Simoie). Marqueteur (King Mark—By By), and Centre (Hymettus—Target). They wore ridden bv L. D. Rice. Marqueteur was making his first appearance. He is the first progeny of imported King Mark to score a win in the Dominion. Pie is the second progeny of By By (Birkenhead — Tallica).

Cooins' (Boniform —Ringdove), full sister to Ringform, made her first appearance at the Wairarapa meeting on New Year's Day and scored in the Nursery Handicap. On tho second day she was beaten by Trentham Rose, who crot the best of the start. Devotion cot a kick on the concluding day at Palmorston, and did not race at Wairarapa in consequence. Mr Bidwill won a race at both places with Probation. Elation ran at both meetings, but failed to show any form. Ho was .'■•"nt to his owner's station, and when next he is raced it will bo as a gelding. The members of .7. W. Lowe's team which raced at, Auckland returned home to-day. The only one to win was Mcnelaus, who scored twioo, tho two races beinjr

worth 500sovs. 'the full brother to Nones put up fast time in both races, and is evidently on t the improve. The Penury gelding Want scored his win this season in the Wairarapa Cup. On the second day of the meeting the principal event was won by Memo (Jain, #lO of the few Mcrrie Englands racing. She is owned by a steward of the Wairarapa Racing Club, and won tho big event at the Easier meeting. The Stratford Cup went to Crawford (a pony sired by St. Paul). He was unplaced at Taranaki on Boxing Day, and the racing there must have improved him. Three of the Auckland contingent—Soldier, Iliero, and Kauri King—were successful on tho second day of the meeting. Monlu (by Boniform) and Sir Fisher (by Maniapoto) scored their first wins in hurdle races during the holidays. The Linacre colt Acre scored an easy win in the Juvenile race at Marton. The stable also won the Cup with Client, who scored in the principal event on the second day of the Manawatu meeting. Mr W. Duncan js having a better run than ho had 111 t'je early part of the season. Pall Mall changed bauds during tho holidays, and is again trained by C. Pritchard. The Golfer was left at New Plymouth, and will be brought, homo when R. Johnston comes down to the Wellington meeting.
