INSTITUTE OF SURVEYORS.

WELLINGTON, January 4. Tho annua] meeting of,tho New Zealand Institute of Surveyors was held to-day. The report showed the membership to bo 262. Thirty-once licensed surveyors are on active service, whilo 58 cadets have enhsted, eight of whom have been killed. It was expected that good would result from tho representations made to the Surveyor-general regarding tho employment of unlicensed men on survey work. The council of the institute felt the time was not opportune to bring about a federation of tho New Zealand and Australian Institutes. Tho following oftieers have been elected for the current year:—President, Mr C. Hastings Bridge (Christchurch); vicepresident, Mr Preston Chambers (Auckland) ; Council— Messrs A. H. Bridge (Auckland). T. Vlumphries Wellington), and L». C. tSitulden (New Plymouth).
