Saturday, Jaxuai:y 6. (Before Mr 11. A. Young, S.M.) Helping Himself. —James Wood, a soldier, pleaded guilty to stealing a portmanteau and contents valued at £5 6s od, itlie property of Thomas Ryan.—Senior-sergeant llutton stated that on the 30th of last month complainant was staying at the Gladstone Hotel, and left his portmanteau in the passage way. During his absence accused camo along and stole the portmanteau, and pawned it for 10s, leaving the contents in a right-of-way. Accused had evidently been drinking. He was a member of the First Reinforcement, and had been wounded at Gallipoli. He had re-enlisted, and was now a lance-corporal in the Twentythird Reinforcement. —Accused was fined £3, and ordered to refund the 10s to the pawnbroker; in default 14 days' imprisonment.
