EXCHANGE OF GREETINGS.
WELLINGTON, January 2. His Excellency the Governor has received a cablegram from (ho Governor-general of Canada, convening to the Government and people of New Zealand cordial greetings .'or the coming year, which he confidently hopes will witness the close of the present war in the final triumph of our cause, a no' the conclusion of a just and lasting peace. He pays a tribute to the valour and heroi .in of the New Zealand soldiers. T,ord Liverpool replied, on behalf of the Government and people of New Zealand, reciprocating the cordial sentiments and stating, with reference to our forces, that he hig'lv appreciated their association with the gallant Canadian soldiers in the Empire's cause. The efforts of the united British nation and the Allies could not to bring the struggle to a victorious conclusion.
