WELLINGTON NOTES.

(From Our Own CoßßFßroNrniwr.) December 27. The Golfer was taken through to NewPlymouth. He fell when jumping the morning before the meeting, and could not start there or at Stratford. Trickey, another Trentham-trained horse, was also taken to New Plymouth, but was only started on the second day. Sweet Tipperary opened her winning account in the Juvenile Handicap at Awapuni. She is engaged in handicap events at the Wairarapa meeting. ,J. W. Lowe started three horses in the Railwav Handicap at Ellcrslie, but none of them got in the money. Square Deal was making his first appearance in the colours of his new owner (Mr E. Short) in the Manawatu Tup, which lie won. Tie is engaged in the Marton Clip at, N<'W Year; also Ararat, another winner at Awapuni. Rangitero, winner of the Fitzherbert Handicap, is another Manawatu winner in at Marton.

When the news reached New Plymouth that the two local-owned and trained horses Depredation and Bisogne had won the

Auckland Cup and Railway Handicap double those who supported the combination were naturally very pleased. It is somewhat remarkable that at the Taranaki Christmas meeting last year both horses, when competing in the hack classes, won a double. They have shown considerable improvement this season. Bisogno won on the second day of the Auckland springmeeting, also the Oroua Stakes on the second day of the Feilding meeting last month. Ho is trained by W. F. Mantle for Mr A. Alexander, a steward of the Taranaki Jockey Club. Ho was formerly a

patron of F. Tilley's Fordell stoble, when Goodwin Park and Sunbird were trained thoro. He was represented at tho Taranaki meeting this week by Narina (a full sister to Bon Revo), Huzza, and Sunbird. Depredation (a son of Campfire) is owned and trained by R. Barlow, who won tho Auckland Cup on Chlan. He is the first to ride, train, and own a winner of the race. Depredation belongs to the same family as Merganser, and ho is the first winner Gosling (who was mated with all kinds of sires) has produced. During the winter months ho furnished a lot, and in the spring won a. double at Wanganui. Ho was ridden in the Cup by R. Reed. He failed in heavy going at Takapuna, but won at Te Awamutu this month. Barlow also trains Paraoa (half-brother to Rcwi Poto), who is engaged in the Stratford and Wellington Cups. But for having his license cancelled 11. Goldfinch would have had the mount on Bisogno.

Carbine's son Campfire did stud duty in the Patea district, and sired a lot of gallopers along the west coast. At New Plymouth on Boxing Day Claris and Bivouac, two of his progeny, were successful, and Flying Camp ran a dead heat. Golden Grafton was the only double winner at the Taranaki mooting. lie scored in open company on his first appearance.
