WOMEN TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION

•WELLINGTON, December 29. To-day the third annual conference of the .New Zealand Women Teachers' Association was held. The president (Miss P. Myers) occupied the chair, and the following delegates were -present: —Miss E. Wilson (Auckland), Miss Glanville (Napier and Hawke's Bay), Miss Hetherington and Miss Einlayson (Wellington), Mrs Howard (Marlborough), Miss Chaplin, 8.A., Miss M. Smith (North Canterbury), Miss M'Kenzie and Misa Colquhoun (Dunediu), Miss M'Lcod, M.A., and Miss Birss (Southland). Miss Myers emphasised that such gatherings helped them to appreciate their difficulties. She hoped that, they would be able to continue to do work which would enable them to help others also. A letter from the Marlborough Association paid a high tribute to the services rendered by the honorary secretary (Miss N. E. Coad), and expressed regret at her suggested retirement. It was decided to recommend that the Education Act bo so amended that the £2O at present paid to married assistants be also paid to widows supporting children up to 17 years of age. It was decided that the executive be recommended to take all the necessary steps for the registration of the New Zealand Women Teachers' Association under the Education, Act. There was some discussion on the advisablcness of admitting to membership ex-teachers and other women interested in education. It was generally agreed that, if the constitution would allow, it would bo an excellent thing.
