THE WOOL CLIP.
ALL TO BE SOLD FOR ARAIY NEEDS. (By Cable). Tho Army Council orders aro that no wool of the 1916-17 clip, consigned to tho United Kingdom from Australia or New Zealand on growers' account, shall be sold except to the Director of Army contracts. All persons holding or receiving stocks are required immediately on arrival to furnish particulars thereof to the authorities, and must sell the wool as directed by them. Air P. S. Foster, Financial Secretary to the War Office, replying to a Rochdale wool deputation, said it was necessary to carefully organise, wool transport. Owing to the shortage of tonnage it might bo necessary to land much of the wool at ports outside of London. He expected that the wool required for military purposes would be sent direct to the users. Regarding the balance, the War Office was anxious to encourage export, and would give it priority over the Homo trade. Air Foster agreed that it was desirable to us.- 1 normal trade methods as far as possible, but the times were abnormal. The proceedings were private.
