According to a general estimate by art authority, the flourmilling industry in the dominion is comprised of over 80 miles. The hands employed in the milling and general handling would be about 1000, while a rough estimate gives the capita! sunk in the industry at upwards of £1.000,000. It is'stated that live stock on the Wes* Coast, suitable for the meat market, is very scarce. This applies not only to South Westland. but to tho northern portion of the district also, and famine prices for meat in the near future are in consequence predicted.
