CHRISTCHURCH, December 12. A dispute leading to litigation lias arisen over the will of Mrs Annie Quaylo Townend, who died in Christehurch a few years ago, and left nearly £BOO,OOO in benelit to private individuals 'and to a few public institutions. Among these bequests was £SOOO to tho Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in the parish of Mallow, in the Isle of Man. The parish covers an area of 12.000 acres, and contains about 3000 inhabitants. At the time of Mrs Townend's death there was no society of that character in the parish, but there was a Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in the Isle of Man. The latter society claimed the sum, but after the nature of the will was made known a society was formed in the parish, and it also is claiming the sum. In Chambers in the iSupreme Court this morning, before Mr Justice Deimiston, Mr
Gresson obtained an order for an originating summons to allow the proceedings to be taken outside of New Zealand, in order to bring the parties into court. Amongst the parties arc Mr T. 11. Moore, who is Mrs Townend s heir, and who visited Christchurch some time ago. and also the Attorney-general of the Isle of Man.
