Masses of wire entanglements and concreted galleries, shelters, and redoubts had converted Poivre Hill into a fortress. Bts capture is most important, because from it the Germans enfiladed the French positions at Vau and Oouaumont, while Bezonvau dominates the whole of the Woevre Plain.
