PERSONAL NOTES. Captain Eustace Stockcr, who, as stated in a recent cable message, has been mentioned in Sir Douglas Haig's despatches, is a son of Mr B. Stacker, of the Legis lative Council staff. When the war broke out he was in England, having been granted a year's leave of absence from Supreme Court staff duties in Wellington. Ho enlisted with the British section of the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces, and in due course was sent to Egypt, where lie was under Colonel Esson. While there lie was recalled to London and given the rank of captain in the King's Liverpool Kcgiment. He went through the battle ot Loos, in which he distinguished bimeelf, and is still on the western front. When he last wrote to his parents he was on the British Headquarters Staff. News has been received here that J. G. Johnston, second assistant of the Mornington School, and second lieutenant in the Sixth Reinforcements, has received, in Egypt, his full lieutenancy. He was one of 'the officers attending the School of Instruction at Zeitoun, anil scored a very high percentage, his commanding officer congratulating him on his success. Lieutenant Johnston "has been in France since the middle of April with the First Otago Battalion. His eldest brother, Wrn. B. Jolmston, of the artillery, who left in the Fifth Reinforcements, is also 'in France. They are the eldest and youngest sons of Mr T. F. Johnston. Kahuika.

Gunner Oswald B. Reynolds, reported wounded, is the second son of Mrs Alfred Reynolds, of St. Kilda, and a Southland High School old boy. On leaving school ho joined tho railway service as a mechanical engineering cadet, and after haying served a year in the head office draughting- room was transferred to the Hillside Workshops. Subsequently he joined the stall' of the Waipori

Falls Power Station, and at the time of his enlistment was one of the electrical engineers there. He left New Zealand in the Bth Reinforcements. PATRIOTIC WOMEN. Work is carried on steadily by the Otago Women's Patriotic Association in the way of providing equipment and comforts, also by the members of tho Overseas Club and the various branches of the Red Cross Society. Reports from N.E. Valley, Port Chalmers, and Green Island show that the women are still working away with a will. Tho -women of Waitati, Moonlight, Macraes, Kyeburn have sent away numerous articles of various kinds to be forwarded in some cases to the soldiers, in others to tho Belgian and Serbian children, or the Red Cross Society.
