AUSTRALIAN SHIPPING
MELBOURNE, June 21
A conference is to be held between the Federal Minister for the Navy and shipping companies with a view to arranging for the control of all shipping between Australian ports by the Naval Department, the companies to retain the management of the various lines, and the Admiralty to dictate the rates of freight and to direct the tonnage into the channels of the greatest value to the commonwealth.
This action is the outcome of the difficulty experienced by the various State Governments in securing the delivery of coal for their railways.
