A BIG MINE.

LONDON, June 23. Sir Douglas fiaig reports: The enemy exploded an exceptionally large mine at Givenchy, just north of the La Eassee Canal, on Thursday morning, and entered our trenches on a narrow front. The Welsh Fusiliers made a very gallant and successful counterattack and completely drove them out, inflicting heavy losses. Our casualties, considering the size of the mine, were comparatively light. We exploded a mine near the Hohenzollern redoubt, and occupied the lip of the crater. Tuesday night's artillery duel at Ypres was heard at Chelmsford (in the heart of Essex, about 125 miles distant).
