FARMERS' UNION HAKES A MOVE. PALMER*?TON N... Juno 22. Two deputations \vlift'xl on the Hon. ])r M'Nab at Palmorston North to-day. Tho Farmers' Union asked tho Minister to do all in bis power to havo the- limestone deposit in the Manawatu Gorge vested in a controlling body, preferably the Farmers' Union, with the object of ultimate transfer lo a company of farmers. Tho Minister said ho would refer the proposition to the Minister of Lands. A large number of local bodies atked the Minister for assistan c in preserving the bush on Mount Whariti. Mi* M'Nab explained that such matters Hid nor come under Iv.r, department, but under the province of the Minister of Lands. ITc was in sympathy with the deputation, but said it would not do to reserve lands which might be of use for closer snttlempnt. He woidd bring the matter under the Minister of Lai;;!'?: observation.
