Gratification was expressed at the last meeting of tho executive of the Society for tho Prevention of Cruelty to Animals on the inspector intimating that there were no cases of cruelty to animals to report for the past month.

Miss A. Tombe. of Dunedin, until recently matron the Walton-on-Thames Hospital for New Zealand soldiers, has been decorated by the Royal Red Cross of the first class.

The shops at Winton, Southland, of Messrs Price and Bulloid (drapers), A. H. Jones, H. Liddcll, and C!. W. Woods were burglariously entered on Sunday morning, 12th inst. The sum of £2 was taken from Woods's cycle shop, and about 3s from Price and Bulleid's. A few shillings were stolen during the afternoon from the Salvation Armv Barracks by two bov<*.
