CTIRLSTCHURCH MARKETS. (Feb United Piiess Association.) CHRLSTCIIUROIT, Juno 20. During the past few days there has been a fair amount of business in wheat passing between merchants and millers, but there is practically nothing offering by growers, who are now holding firmly. The market is very firm, but no further advance in price is reported. There is an improved demand for oats, and purchases are being made by farmers for fheh iffn use. As there is so little grain off* ring lof.vui." orders are being filled with Southland ou.es. Gartons arc now worth

up to 2s 8d and duns 2s lOd at country stations. The demand tor potatoes has eased oil, and merchants arc finding it more difficult to effect sales. This is probably due to the two large shipments that were recently made to Auckland. There is not a large quantity offering, as the bulk of the unsold portion of the crop is now in the pit, and growers are not inclined to sell, the price generally asked by them being £6 at country stations.

DUNEDIN STARK-BOWKETT SOCIETY. The twentieth annual report states that in No. 1 group the directors have paid, during the year, five dividends out of profits, amounting to £4716, or £6 per share, and they anticipate finally winding up the group well within tiio time stated at last annual meeting. In No. 2 group nine appropriations were disposed of, s:x by ballot, and three by sale. The premiums realised were £9l, as against £l6O for the preceding year. During the year five shares, representing £179. were withdrawn, and the subscriptions on 12 shares, amounting to £423 14s, were credited to the members' repayment accounts. The number of shares is 456. Subscriptions in th.'s group cease in December. The number of appropriations to be disposed of is 26. The amount to credit of profit and loss account is £6739 15s lid, equal to £l4 15s 7d per share. In No. 3 group seven appropriations were disposed of, four by ballot, and three by sale. The premiums realised were £5.31, against £762 for the preceding year. New shares to the number of 119 were fallen up, and notice of withdrawn! of 148 shares received, and 34- shares wcra forfeited. The number of shares current at May 3 was 1421. The amount to credit of profit and loss now stands at £3OBO Is 2d. Neither the subscriptions nor repayment accounts have been affected to any appreciable extent by the financial stringency caused by the war. The retiring director (Mr J. G. D. Dempster) offers frirrsell for re-election. The retiring auditor (Mr J. G. Patterson) also offers himself for re-election. The directors express their appreciation of the services rendered bv the secretary (Mr J. A. Hopcraft) and his staff.
