WAR TAX ON STOCK.

AUCKLAND, May 11. The question of war taxation was discussed to-day at the meeting of the Provincial Executive of the Farmers.' Union. Mr John Allen, delegato to the annual conference, asked for directions in the matter. He stated that he had found many broadminded men in favour of an export tax on wool, meat, and dairy produce, and another proposal was a direct tax of Is per head tor sheep and 4s for cattle held by farmers. Farmers were not bearing a fair share of the war expenses, and in proportion to the capitalist they did not pay sufficient in taxes. Mr J. G. Boddie: I take it that you favour direct taxation on exports other than a stock tax? —Mr Allen : Yes, that is. so. Mr J. E. Makgill was of opinion that a tax on sheep and cows would probably meet the cage. Mr A- Ross (chairman) said it was evident the meeting was not going to agree. It would bo better to take no action, but deal with the matter in conference.
