HISTORICAL MATERIAL.
WELLINGTON.. April ?. Av. interesting collection, comprising a series of portraits and historical material re» lating to the Maori wars, has been obtained from Mr W. F. Gordon, of New Plymouth,' and to-day it was thrown open for inspection at the Dominion Museum The Hon. Mr Russell, in addressing thosu present, referred to the Mitchell Library in Sydney and to the efforts already made in Auckland and Christchurch to secure colleen tions of material connected with provincial histories. He thought there should also bo a national collection. The Board of Science and Art proposed to find space for one m the new museum. The collection now displayed was the nucleus of this national exhibition.
