At the Magistrate’s Court at Waimate on October 29 the court officials, justices of the peace, members of the Bar and police assembled to bid farewell to Sergeant Craw* ford, who is retiring on superannuation after 35 years’ service. Mr E. J. Atwill presented the officer with a handsome case of pipes and a silver matchbox, and Mr Fitch, on behalf of the Bar, handed Sergeant Crawford a writing desk for Mrs Crawford. The recipient suitably acknowledged the gifts, and intimated his intention of enjoying an extended sojourn abroad before settling down to retired life, possibly at Waimate.
