LABOUR DAY SPORTS
GATHERING AT FORBURY PARK. The annual sports of the Otago Labour Day Association were held on Monday afternoon at Forbury Park. There was not a huge attendance, and the boisterous weather rendered things less pleasant than they would otherwise have been. However, there wore fair entries for all events, and the programme was got through with a promptitude which reflected credit on the officials, the principal of whom were as follow: —Secretary, Mr R. Breen; superintendent, Mr C. Lorimer; judges—Messrs F. Greenhalgh, W. J. Pellett, T. A. Payton, A. Blaokie, G. Garbutt, G. F. Bewley, A. M'Miilan, and G. Anderson; clerk of the course, Mr D. Wilson; press stewards, Messrs G. Kellar and W. J. Ruston; handicappers, Messrs W. Ronwick and A. Mercer ; starter, Mr W. Renwick. Perhaps the most pleasing feature of the afternoon’s sport was the dancing events, in which considerable ability was shown, particularly by juvenile competitors. An art union, to which the price of admission to the ground entitled entrance, lent the element of excitement to the proceedings, especially as the first prize was valued at £25. Ninety per cent, of the profits of the sports were to bo devoted to the Wounded Soldiers’ Fund. The results were as follow: 100yds, boys under 15 —A. Nicholas 1, M'Allen 2, Fogarty 3. 75yds girls’ race—E. Kellan 1, E. Bewley 2. 75yds single ladies’ race —Miss M. Pepper 1, Miss Hendry 2 Bagpipes competition (marches) for juniors—G. Robertson 1.
