With the growth of feed, the stock market has acquired more life. In regard to sheep, the chief point of interest is the opening of tho lamb market. A good number of lines of these have been sold for forward delivery in February at prices ranging from 15s 4d uip to 16s, several sales at the top figure being reported. A line of full-mouthed ewes in wool changed hands at 20s, with lambs given in. Several sales of broken-mouthed ewes in wool, with lambs, have been made at 11s, 12s, and 13s, all counted, while sound-mouthed ewes, with lambs, have sold at 15s, all counted. Mixed sexes of hoggets have been placed at 20s and 20s 6d. Fat wethers have been sold in lines at from 32s to 355, while one prune lot realised 40s. Cattle are in demand. A draft of 2Uyearold mixed sexes found a buyer at £6 15s, and for mixed sex two-ycar-olds £5 was given. A good-sized line of fat steers and heifers sold at £l6. SOUTHLAND STOCK MARKET. (From Oub Own Correspondent.) INVERCARGILL, Octobe? 23. _ In the stock sections there has been a fair amount of business during tho week at prices, in all instances, considerably firmer than thoso ruling the previous week. The quantity of fat stock, both sheep and cattle, is limited: in fact, butchers are finding it hard to fill all requirements, especially in view of the strong demand from Dunedin way. The same applies to fat sheep, and this class has shown a very strong rise during the week. It is not anticipated, however, that the prices at last Wallacetown sale will continue, although undoubtedly the market will be firmer. There is also good inquiry for store wethers and well-grown store cattle, and for tho latter class there is strong inquiry from Taieri buyers, who have been operating freely during the, week. Prices all round are sound, but a great deal of business is not expected to be done till shearing is over. Prices are as follows: — Fat cattle: Ox beef, 44s to 465; heifer beef, 4-Os to 425; cow beef, 38s to 395. Fat Sheep: Extra prime butchers’ wethers, 37e to 395; prime, 56s to 38s; medium, 34s to 355; prime ewes, 28s to 295; medium unfinished, 23s to 245. WELLINGTON, October 20. At the Johnsonville fat stock sale there were good yardings of cattlo and sheep, which made late rates. ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. CHRISTCHURCH, October 20. At Addington to-day tho entries of fat stock were somewhat larger than last week, and there was a good attendance. A deputation from Christchurch which interviewed tho Prime Minister on Saturday in reference to the export of surplus wheat, suggested that another census of wheat in stock should be taken, and to this the Prime Minister agreed.
