SIR IAN HAMILTON RECALLED.
GENERAL MONRO TAKES COMMAND, LONDON, October 19. The War Office notifies that Genera! Charles Monro has been appointed to the command at Gallipoli. Sir lan Hamilton is returning to England. It is reported also that General Birdwood is in command pending General Monro’s arrival. Major-general Charles C. Monro was born in June, 1860, and is thus 55 years old — seven years younger than Sir lan Hamilton. Ho first saw service in the frontier wars in India (in 1879-80), as a young man, and subsequently (in 1899-1900) in South Africa, as Major Monro. Ho was mentioned in despatches, and appointed as brevet lieut.colonol. On his return to England he was appointed chief instructor of the School of Musketry, and from 1912 to 1814 commanded a division of the Territorial Forces.
