JERSEYS IN TARANAKI.

DISPOSAL OF A FINE HEED

(Fr.oit Omt Wanganui Correspondent.) When it was announced that Mr E. Griffiths, the well-known breeder of Taranaki, had decided to dispose of his wellknown herd of Jerseys, a flutter of excitement prevailed in a number of places throughout the Dominion, and it was only to bo expected, therefore, that buyers would bo in attendance from all parts. This proved to bo the case when the sale took place on Wednesday—in fact, there were buyers present from Australia. On the whole, very satisfactory prices wore realised, though some of the cows in prime did not bring the price expected when compared with the prices realised for some of the younger stock. With one exception all the cattle will remain in the North Island, being distributed from Dargavillo to Levin. The highest price paid was for Mercedes’ Noble Queen. She was paraded with throe of her progeny, and looked a perfect picture. She was eventually knocked down to an Australian buyer for 140 gs. The next highest price was £125, which was paid by Mr H. B. Lcpper, of Lcpporton, for Petuno’s Noble, the bull given by Mr Griffiths and raffled for the Patriotic Funds. The winning number of the raflle, by the way, was hold by Mrs M. S. Thacker, of Banks Peninsula. One of the cheapest animals sold was the famous old bull K.C.B. (14 years of age), which wont to Mr Clements, of Northern Wairoa, for 40gs. There was keen competition for hie stock. A young bull, Roj’al Rose, realised 95gs, being purchased by Mr G. P. Ewing, of Whangarata, South Auckland, and P. M. was secured by Mr J. Roulston, of Pukokoho, for 90gs. The latter abo purchased the highest-priced heifer, Noble Queen Mary, for 82gs. In all 67 lots were submitted, realising £2917 15s. The sales were ; COWS.
