LIGHT-WEIGHT GOODS.
AUTHORITIES VIGILANT. WELLINGTON, October 21
Mr Russell (Minister of Internal Affairs) states that ho has given instructions that when inspectors are weighing bread at any bakery on behalf of the department they are to t?ke a number of loaves, say, 10, and weigh them together. If the gross weight is right, the baker will not be penalised for any slight variation in separate loaves. If the 10 loaves do not make full weight, the baker will be prosecuted in respect of the loaves which are found to be short-weight. The same principle is being applied in connection with butter. Inspectors are watching Ihe sales of butter and weighing packages as occasion arises in order to make sure that consumers are not being defrauded.
