CLUTHA PRESBYTERY
Ths Presbytery of Clutha met at Milton • —the Rev. Mr Webster (Moderator), and tbe Rev. Mr Webster (Moderator), and Messrs Currie, Williams. Watson, D nr war cl, Morton, M'Dowall. M''Cully, Orr. Mason, and Loan (ministers), Messrs A. Kilgour, Edie, Blaikie, Rnseoll, Tait, and Clarke (elders), Messrs Crawley and Crockett (homo missionaries). Mr Durward moved, and Mr Morton seconded, and it was unanimously agreed (the members standing), that the Presbytery records its deep sense of tho great loss which the Church has sustained in the death of tbe Eov. William Grant, of Gisborne, who was killed in the trenches at Gallipoli while attending to his duties as a chaplain ; its admiration of his work as a minister of the Gospel and as a wise and devoted chaplain with the forces, and desires to express to Mrs Grant and her sons the great sympathy of the Presbytery with them in their sad bereavement, and to commend them to the divine consolations which are ours in Christ Jesus. The Presbytery agreed to place on record its appreciation of tho king and faithful services for nearly 40 years of the late Mr Matthew Duimett. in connection with the Waiwera congregation. Mr M'Culiy laid on the table resolutions from the Waihola office-bearers and congregation asking tho Presbytery to so adjust boundaries as to strengthen Waihola and allow it to remain as a sanctioned charge. —It was agreed that a conference between the Dunedin and Clutha Presbyteries be arranged for at the Assembly. The Assembly remit regarding home mission income was considered and agreed to. It was agreed to arrange for the licensing
of Mr Edmund W. Halford, student in theology, on the 25th inst. at Milton, and to allow Mr Q. H. Crockett (home missionary at Beaumont) to enter + ho Theological Hall, with a view to the ministry. Mr Watson reported that the jubilee cf the Warcpa congregation was to bo observed on Sunday, the 24th inst., with meetings at Warcpa on the 26th and at, Puorua on the 27th.—The Moderator and Messrs Currie and Clarke were appointed to represent the Presbytery at the week evening Functions. Reports on behalf of the commissioners appointed to visit the Waiwera and T\aitancrata congregafona were presented, and resolutions were passed expressing satisfaction at the work that ’« being carried on in eaeli nar’sh hy the ministers, office-bearers, and Christian workers. It wa.s reported that Mr Heard had b«on appointed hv th" Heme M : esione Committee home mission arv at Papatowai. Mr Currie reported op hehalr of the Commission of Presbytery that Mr Wm. Fleming was ordained as a home missionary of the Church on September 22. On the motion of Afr Currio. seconded by Mr Pdaik’e. it w's agreed to appoint a Presbvt.erv’s Pahhath Pehool Committee, aonsist.ing of AT-oprg Hurward (convener), Echo, and Stonhousc.
