IMMENSE ENEMY LOSSES.
PARIS, October 11. A communique states ; The latest information confirms the fact that a violent German counter-attack against the Anglo-French front during the past few days at Loos and northward was most costly. Four German divisions made the principal assault, and were completely repulsed and dispersed. The enemy left between 7000 and 8000 dead in front of the allied line. A communique states ; We have made very marked progress in the wood westward of Souchez and eastward of the Souchez-Angres road, the valley of Souchez, and eastward of the redoubt at the Givenchy wood, also the heights towards La Folie. We have made fresh progress in the Champagne north-eastward of Tahure, capturing after a vigorous attack the whole German work south-eastwards of the village on the edge of the Goutte ravine. THREE MILLION SHELLS. AMSTERDAM, October 12. Mr Kellermann, a war correspondent, says that the French' during the last few days fired 3,000,000 shells. The German losses were heavy, and Mr Kellei’mann believes that the whole of the Champagne army must have been sacrificed. He adds that the French are attacking the whole line with unprecedented vigour and courage.
