“Is religion u charity?” was a question raised during the argument on the Napier will case in the Appeal Court at Wellington (aays the Timesl. This knotty point, which Was not determined by their Honors, gave rise to the further question—“ What is the difference between a convert and a pervert.” T’his Mr Justice Denniston answered by Baying: “A pervert is a man who leaves your religion, and a convert is a man who comes over to your religion.”
A former resident of South Canterbury, who drew a section on the Cion mark estate (North Canterbury) was in Timaru on the 12th (says tho Herald), when he said that a good rain had fallen up there, and that tho prospects on tho settlement were bright. I Dauber :“ I observe that you don’t like | my pictures, sir; but I can only paint ' tilings as I sec them.” Critic: “ Then you j shouldn’t paint when you’re seeing things j like that.”
