BOWLING.

Secretaries are requested to forward particulars of games played and fori, booming matches. NOTES BY “JACK.” Seven of the clubs affiliated to the Dunedin Centre opened their playing areas on Saturday and the season may now bo said to bo in full swing. The weather was perfect and the proceedings proved enjoyable in every instance. The greens were necessarily on the. heavy side after the recent heavy rains. With so many greens opening on the one day the attenance of visitors on each green was more limited than usual, but in each instance there was a sprinkling of bowlers from other clubs—enough to lend variety and interest to the meetings, but not enough to force members to be spectators in order to give the visitors a game. At Balmacewen, Mr P. L. Ritchie, as president welcomed members and visitors, and the first bowl was sent away by Mrs Ritchie. At Fairfield the honours fell to the lot of Mr G. Miller as president, and Mrs Miller rolled up the first bowl. At Green Island the local band turned out as usual, and Mr Geddes. as president, did the honours for the club the ladies providing refreshments as in the case of all the clubs who opened the season. Mr and Mrs C. C. Rawlinson made members and visitors welcome to the North-east Valley green, as did Mr and Mrs Ellis in the case of the Kaikorai Club. A good many visitors put in an appearance on the Port Chalmers green, where Mr Watson did the honours as president and Miss Watson formally opened the green by rolling up the first bowl. At St. Kilda, Mr A. H. Allan, the president, officiated and Mrs Allen sent away the first bowl. Flint’s band providing the music. At Wakari Mr and Mrs Moir welcomed members and visitors.
