WELLINGTON NOTES.

(Fhom Our Own Correspondent.) „ October 15. The Masterton Racing Club had a successful one-day meeting on Thursday. Several Stewards’ Handicap and New Zealand Cup candidates were seen out. In the Spring Handicap, one mile and, a-quarter, Rinaldo made his first appearance this season. Ho had done good track work, and was the best backed, and at the finish he had nothing to spare to secure the verdict from Tangihou, who stays well, and turned the tables on Maniaroa, to whom he ran second in the Horowhenua Cup. The other Cup horses to compete were Sinapis and Pavlova. Rinaldo and Tangihou made the best showing. Bronk Delaval again failed in a hack race, and is evidently not much good at present, although he has been engaged in the Champion Plate at Trentham. . Bertrada, looking big and bright, made her appearance in the Stewards’ Handicap, which proved the best of good things for Miacara (Boniform —Carissima), a stable mate of Rinaldo. She won at Mar ton and Wanganui, and is evidently improving. Both horses carry the colours of Mr W. Duncan, a popular steward of the Wanganui Jockey Club. Four Stewards’ Handicap candidates competed in the Flying Handicap, six furlongs, in which Hush-a-bye defeated Three, who looked a bit pretty, and may improve. The two other starters, Pcronilla and Pariform, did not finish. Peronilla looked as if she broke down, and was pulled up, and Pariform’s gear came off. i Red Ribbon (Elevation —-Blue Ribbon) won the Trial Stakes from Pall Mall (sister to Immer) and Tango (half-sister to Pavlova). Another three-year-old to score was Gold Foil (Hymettus —Gold Thread), a successful performer last year. Other winners were Otter (Kilchoran— -Platypus), Plunder (Achilles —Spoil; a useful performer who must be nearly out of the hack class), and Rongora (by Toy Gun —Natator mare). The latter won the race for gentleman riders, in which the first and second horses , were ridden by sons of the late Mr J. R. ' M'Donald. i All riders at. the Masterton meeting wore ' crepe arm-bands as a mark of respect to the late W. Adams, who died from injuries received while riding Gladful at Hastings last Saturday. 1 Mr W. Nidd has gone into business at Christchurch. Ho has sent for Peronilla, ■ who will in future bo trained at Riccarton.
